WELCOME TO FEDERALSBURG
Two hundred years in the making.

Federalsburg is a small community, rich in history and known for gracious, hospitable living. Federalsburg is located on the Marshyhope Creek in the southern-most part of Caroline County. The Town is blessed with easy access to the Chesapeake Bay, the Atlantic Ocean and all points in between. The Town is surrounded by beautiful rural landscape. Citizens are friendly and caring. Neighborhoods are small and quiet. Traffic is unhurried. All this reminds people of a more nostalgic time and place for most communities.

Recreational enjoyment is easily found in our own backyard! Over 3,000 acres adjacent to the Town is devoted to wildlife preservation. The Idylwild Wildlife Management Area is owned and managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, and bird watching are some of the activities enjoyed in and around Idylwild. The Marshyhope Greenway is a walking trail that runs through the Town along the beautiful Marshyhope Creek, which is dotted with natural grasses and plants along the scenic shoreline. The trail currently runs one and a half miles.

Chambers Park is a peaceful wooded area with playground equipment, tennis courts and ball fields—a perfect spot for picnics and family gatherings. Boaters can launch their craft at the Marshyhope Recreation Park and Marina, which houses covered pavilions for large gatherings and sporting areas for basketball, volleyball and soccer. The Annual Frog Fest celebrated the last Saturday in June at the Marina Park, includes food, games, entertainment, fireworks and a parade.

Other annual events that reflect the Town’s “olden days” charm are the Fire Prevention Pageant, All American Soapbox Derby Day, the Annual Halloween Trunk or Treat, VFW Turkey Shoot, Christmas caroling and Tree lighting at the triangle, Veterans Day Parade, and Christmas Parade. Not far from downtown, the Annual Wheat Threshing Steam and Gas Engine Show takes place the first weekend in August.

The Town’s motto is “Pride in the Past, Faith in the Future”. Historic preservation is a focus for citizens as indicated by the formation of the Federalsburg Historical Society. The Town has a long and rich history. Originally known as “Northwest Fork”, the name Federalsburg can be traced back to the 1790’s and most likely originated due to the large Federalist Party movement in this area in the late eighteenth century. The Town was incorporated in 1823. Industry consisted of shipbuilding, saw and grain mills, and agriculture.

Modern day Federalsburg houses three industrial parks located at the edge of Town. Shopping is a pleasant experience and you will find friendly folk to serve you. Welcome to Federalsburg… heart of the Eastern Shore!
